Starving Dogs Rescued

On Tuesday, November 8th, CARE received a report of three neglected dogs in Kang-hwa Island, Incheon. The owner of these dogs was supposedly too poor to feed them. Just a few days ago, one of the neighbors had felt very sorry for the dogs and took one of them home. He then made a phone call to CARE to help the other two.

As you can see in the video, one of the dogs could hardly stand because he was so emaciated. When CARE arrived, we could not find any evidence of the dogs being given water or food. There were no dishes and no bowls. We immediately gave some water and food to the poor dehydrated and starving animals. They quickly ate and drank as fast as they could.

Here is footage of one of the dogs eating for the first time:

As of this afternoon, both dogs are in CARE’s possession. We simply could not allow the owner to continue owning these animals. Though, we should note that the law does not support us in this regard. Current Korean law allows people to do whatever they want with their animals and not be forced to give up possession. Of course, this is absolutely outrageous and CARE continues to lobby for change. We are currently collecting petitions to send to the government, in hopes that we can improve the Korean Animal Protection Law. CARE plans on submitting the collected petitions to the government in the near future.

If you would like to sign the petition, you can visit this site and click “http://happylog.naver.com/care/post/PostView.nhn?bbsSeq=15402&artclNo=123461483237&scrapYn=N ” at the bottom. You must then click the green button and sign in using Naver. If you don’t have a Naver account or understand Korea, please be patient.  We are working on an English version of this petition. We will upload shortly.

Thanks for your support!

This is a great story! I used to live on Kang-Hwa Island and bought a jingo-mix from a backyard meat farm there! She was 6 months old when I bought her and had parvo. She’s about to turn 4 years old and is an amazing dog. I’m now in vet school and everyone loves her and her story. Stories of rescues need to be made public more often to raise awareness of the cruelty towards animals in some parts of South Korea!
