Seoul City has just announced a decision to ban the use of horse carriages in Cheongecheon. City officials reported their decision was based on pressure from animal rights groups and increased measures in traffic safety. We are pleased to thank supporters from around the world who voiced their opposition to the use of horse carriages.
CARE supports the ban on horse carriages because it is an unnecessary practice, resulting in the exploitation, overuse, stress, and endangerment of horses. We have also repeatedly voiced our concerns for the safety of humans surrounding this practice, by pointing to the number of traffic accidents caused by horse carriages.
